Redemptive Grace:

Transparent reflections of God’s goodness.

Amber Black

What readers are saying…

I recently heard a phrase that there are three types of people: someone going through something, someone who just went through something, and someone who is about to go through something. As I opened this book, I found myself in the camp of someone going through something. Within pages I felt more peace about my current situation along with reassurance of God’s love and grace.

Amber is open and transparent in this book like most authors wouldn’t be and that vulnerability makes her extremely relatable. The pages are filled with real emotions and every chapter is punctuated with Bible verses to remind us of His truth. This book is a great reality check that, yes, life is tough, but it’s tough on all of us. Yet despite that, there is beauty in God’s plan, his purpose for our lives, and his redemptive grace knows no bounds.

Redemptive Grace: Transparent Reflections on God’s Goodness by Amber Black is a beautifully honest book that dives right into life’s hardest parts. The author walks us through her childhood pressure to perform, losing her voice to vocal paralysis, and living through chronic sickness. She holds nothing back about her past mistakes, a marriage that slowly fell apart and ended in divorce, and the deep sorrow of losing two babies to miscarriage. To help readers process their own pain, Amber gives you actual tools you can use right away, including a simple Spiritual Discipline Work Plan and a practical guide to help you learn to separate truths from lies. By pairing her life story with verses from Romans and the Psalms, she builds simple journal prompts that help you look closely at your own heart. Reading her book felt like a needed reminder that our lives are constantly being shaped, even during our most painful trials.

Amber Black’s Redemptive Grace is a memoir and self-help guide that stands out because of its absolute sincerity. What caught me off guard while reading it was how much joy and humor Amber maintains, even when sharing memories from an operating room or a hospital stay on her wedding day. The way she describes her family—such as her brother Tyler taking on the responsibilities of a young church elder or her sister Andrea’s calm response during a childhood medical emergency—adds a human element to the chapters. The book is deeply practical for anyone who wants to build a consistent morning study routine or learn how to co-parent peacefully after a major family separation. Amber’s advice to protect your private life by avoiding venting on social media during hard times is very wise and useful. Overall, Redemptive Grace is a refreshing, gentle resource that shows us how genuine faith can really turn a life around after hitting rock bottom. Very highly recommended.

Redemptive Grace combines transparent storytelling, relatable life struggles, and interactive prompts, offering the reader a powerful opportunity to reflect on their own story and path to redemption. Amber Black’s openness and honesty naturally encourages the reader to be just as transparent, creating a provocative and interactive devotional experience. One unique tool Amber provides is the opportunity for the reader to rephrase scripture in their own words, an effective practice for meditating on scripture and how it applies personally. As Amber confesses in the book, God has gifted her with a weird sense of humor, which also adds whimsy and delight in each chapter. This is one of the best Christian books I’ve read that combines story, scripture, practical guidance, journaling, and action. Highly recommend!

Redemptive Grace by Amber Black centers on the painful process of identity reconstruction after a person hits an absolute spiritual and relational rock bottom. The book tracks how Black managed the immense pressures of being the eldest child, only to face the terrifying reality of losing her lifelong safety net when her thirteen-year marriage dissolved, a crisis followed immediately by the forced loss of her home. But despite everything, Black refuses to succumb to bitterness or blame. She focuses on the hard work of self-examination, detailing how she had to confront her own defensive thinking and pride before any true healing could begin. Her book frames her "brokenness" not as a permanent failure, but as a clean slate for building a life based on her complete dependence on God. Reading it will challenge you to look at your own hidden struggles with total honesty.

Amber Black’s Redemptive Grace is a powerful and inspiring memoir that commands respect; it treats personal suffering with dignity and openness. Her writing style is remarkably down-to-earth, reading like a direct, unfiltered conversation with a person who has nothing left to hide. The chapters move along seamlessly, shifting between memories and deep reflections without feeling repetitive. Reading it made me reflect on the courage it takes to look at my own life failures without trying to point fingers or blame others. I love how the book celebrates the caring support of immediate family members and the unexpected ways a new church campus community rallies around a person during their bleakest hours. Black’s perspective on building a cooperative co-parenting relationship after a major family fracture offers excellent insight to others in her same situation. If you like transparent faith journeys that give a real look at overcoming hardship, this is the ideal memoir for you.

This book was amazing and so well written. With the first chapter I wanted read the book straight through in one night. Instead, I made myself go slowly and worked my way through the book journal style answering the questions, writing my thoughts after prayerful consideration, looking up and listening to the songs mentioned. Kudos to the author, I can't wait for your next one.

When Amber Black was six years old, she heard the story of Cain and Abel. The story moved her so deeply that she has sought to maintain a close relationship with God ever since. After going through various life experiences, she has come to understand that moments of doubt and difficulty are part of life, but that with faith and strength she can remain connected to Him. To express this idea, she shares Redemptive Grace with us. She addresses topics related to situations that many of us have gone through, such as lying, pride, and the loss of loved ones. She also teaches us to forgive ourselves and to learn from our mistakes to become better people, while reminding us that God is always with us, helping us in the most unexpected ways.

I loved the way Amber Black shares her life experiences with us. She speaks naturally about her life, linking each moment to life lessons. For example, she reflects on her teenage years, a time when she began lying to her parents, acting behind their backs, and the consequences that followed. For me, that part was very meaningful because there was a moment when she felt lost, but she was able to find her way again. That is why I admire her honesty in sharing such personal details. This makes it easier to connect with her ideas, as she shares an equal mix of fun, exciting, and tragic stories that keep the reading engaging. Redemptive Grace is a reminder of God’s love and the strength He gives us to keep going, even in moments of doubt.

Can life's hardest moments lead to something better? In Redemptive Grace by Amber Black, the author reveals her personal journey of faith, through good times and, more importantly, during some bad ones. Told using stories from different stages of her life, she shares her experiences with teenage mistakes, health challenges, marriage, motherhood, loss, complicated family relationships, and new beginnings. Black also uses each chapter to speak to the reader about the lessons from the Bible that have helped her, encouraging them to reflect on their own lives and spiritual paths. One thing is clear: she believes God was with her through every season of life. When life feels overwhelming, where do you turn for strength? And how do you hold onto the hope you’ve always had when everything around you is changing?

Redemptive Grace by Amber Black was honest and easy to connect with. It felt real because Black doesn't pretend to be perfect. I had a lot of empathy for her when she was discussing her relationship with her father. The hurt and longing for acceptance and reconciliation were relatable to some of my own experiences with a parent. She’s also very open about grief, depression, and the struggles that tested her faith. Several parts of her story caught me completely by surprise, which made the book even more memorable. The writing was conversational, like I was sitting across from a friend talking about life. Her mentality is sort of like everything happens for a reason, but it doesn’t have to be the end of your story. It’s one of my mantras in life. Anyone looking for faith-based memoirs, personal testimonies, or stories about spiritual growth will want to read this book today.
